Being in the base game helps keeps things feeling lively even when you are not in a bonus.

When Kong wakes up, he will leap from his throne and activate one of several different features. These are all designed to shake up the reels and introduce mechanics that many new players may be seeing for the first time.

Banana Cannon Wilds see Kong jump up with a banana cannon and fire a sticky banana bomb at the centre reel. This explodes and turns extra positions wild. But why? Let’s take a deep dive.

Visuals and Audio 

The visuals lean into classic Egyptian slot design. Golden hues, hieroglyphs, and jewel-encrusted symbols dominate the screen, set against a tomb-like backdrop. The reels are clear and uncluttered, which keeps gameplay easy to follow even during feature moments. However it just feels weak. The link is minimal. When compared to something like, Eye of Horus. It’s a weak visual

Lucky Pharaoh uses five reels and ten fixed paylines, with wins paid left to right. The symbol set mixes low-value card icons with higher-value Egyptian jewels and artefacts. The Pharaoh symbol itself acts as the top payer. 

The base game feels steady rather than explosive. Wins land regularly, but most payouts are modest unless higher-value symbols align. This keeps bankroll swings under control and builds anticipation for the game’s main feature, which is triggered through winning combinations rather than scatters. 

Something that sets Lucky Pharaoh apart from other slots, is their ability to hit a win, without the first row. If you have a win blocked, the lines still pay out a win. In this case (see Photo above) the Jacks in question still paid out a win. It’s a nice touch and allows for far more wins. How often do you get a good win blocked? Well, not here.  

After any win worth 4× your stake or more, the game presents a choice. You can either collect the win and continue spinning normally, or spend part of that win to access the Power Spins feature. This decision point is central to how Lucky Pharaoh plays. 

Bonus Features 

Instead of traditional free spins, Lucky Pharaoh offers Power Spins. When activated, you spin four identical reels at the same time. This significantly increases the chances of landing large symbol combinations across multiple paylines. 

Mystery symbols can also appear during Power Spins. These symbols transform to reveal matching icons, often filling reels and boosting win potential. Because the reels are synchronised, a single strong symbol reveal can result in multiple simultaneous line wins. 

The feature creates tension because you are effectively reinvesting winnings for a chance at bigger returns. You can also continue buying additional Power Spins if new qualifying wins land during the feature, increasing the risk but also the potential reward. 

IF you land a big enough win, you can half your trade value. I.e 2 Power Spins, can be swapped for 1 Power Spin, with a 2x Enhanced Payout. Each power spin is valued, (with the win outcome) at four times the stake. So, divide the win by four, to determine how many Power Spins you can trade for. Then, you can half this to trade for enhanced wins, basically stacking a multi up, as the trade of cost per power spin. Got it?  

Once Power Spins are completed, you can gamble these wins…. yup! You can enter a never ending loop. Depending on how big your baubles are, you can infinitely gamble your winnings, for more spins. But let me tell you, power spins are risky.  

Final Thoughts 

Lucky Pharaoh is a solid example of a slot that succeeds through simplicity and smart feature design. While the theme is familiar, the Power Spins mechanic gives the game its own identity and encourages active decision-making rather than passive spinning. The reason most of us are here, heck all of us… is because we like to gamble. People of a certain vintage will remember Pimp my Ride. Well Blueprint pimped this slot. “Yo, we heard you like to Gamble while you gamble, so we threw a gamble into your gambling. So you can gamble while you gamble.” Me? I love these myself, but I hate that these are so costly.

But here’s my biggest problem with these big gambles, If you’re in the pub environment its easy to jump on after a pint or two. These gambles then become a bit risky. Not only have you got some extra Dutch courage in you, but its more likely, you’ll risk bigger on the slots. It’s a bit like waving a fresh cold Dr Pepper under the 10p Gamers nose. The Temptation will be high. Your willpower needs to be strong. But you know, UK rules mean that’s fine, but don’t you be spinning faster than every 5 seconds now!

It may not appeal to players who prefer long, cinematic free spins rounds, but it will suit those who enjoy calculated risk and steady gameplay. If you ignore all the previous Goonies slots for a moment, this one actually looks really nice. Set deep inside a cave, it’s filled with cartoon-style, atmospheric artwork. On the left, glowing treasure chests flicker; on the right, a lantern shines gently—giving the whole game an eerie but adventurous vibe. Compared to older games in The Goonies slot series, switching to this one feels like jumping from HD to UHD. It’s crisp, bright, and modern.

…but once you remember the older Goonies slots, you can’t help noticing how familiar everything feels. The symbols, the feature trail, even some animations look copied and pasted. It almost feels like they asked ChatGPT to enhance things—which is obviously lazy. Who would do that?

Final Thoughts – Rare Gem or Lacking Loot?

If you’re still with me after all that, I applaud you. The Goonies Quest for Treasure 2 certainly doesn’t fall short on features—if anything, it goes too far. It’s great to see so much variety, but locking features behind progression can be a blessing or a curse depending on how patient you are.
